A recent survey carried out by Department Store Debenhams has found that girls in the North are more likely to apply fake tan than girls in the south.
Girls in the South seem to be more concerned about maintaining a perfect skin through tinted moisturizers andconcealing products.
A survey has shown northerners where more fake tan
As you get further North up to Scotland, the survey found that Scottish women were the largest users of fake tanning products such as sprays and lotions in the UK.
The research has provided a useful insight into Britains fake tan popularity map.

A recent article on MSN news and lifestyle talks about an implant that could give a tan for a lengthy period of time - as long as three months thus getting rid of the need to use either UV tanning or fake tanning products.
The implant is currently only used to help skin conditions including the treatment of skin cancer.
Melanin is the catalyst for change in skin colour
Why the implant could work for fake tanning is it helps with the generation of melanin which is the catalyst for the change in colour of skin. This is done by putting a tiny implant under the skin.
Unfortunately, this is only talk and any commercial tanning use of the implant may well be years away!

The popular reality show, The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) has increased the popularity of the fake tan and boosted fake tan sales in the UK.
Amy Childs and Lauren Goodger have both shown how to successfully apply a beautiful natural looking fake tan.
In fact it is the whole cast of past and present members of TOWIE that have been shown to sport a glowing and golden fake tan. Some of the cast have gone on to launch their own tanning range or their own beauty salon.
Following some research, we have included below at the time of writing what we believe to be the products used by individual members of the cast including male members such as Joey Essex and Harry Derbridge. The TOWIE stars below also share their tanning tips and their tanning routines.
In an interview last year with Now Magazine, Amy Childs professed that she cannot stand girls that have a blotchy fake tan. In the same interview she also admitted that her perfect night includes touching up her own fake tan.
Amy is in the process of launching her own Amy Childs fake tan range but up until now she has been a huge fan of Fake Bake. On her Twitter page she tweeted:
“The tan I am using is Fake Bake Airbrush – doesn’t go patchy non streaky – a must have this month girlies, I love it xx.“
Lauren has launched her own fake tan range called Laurens Way fake tan which has been such a success that it is now stocked by retailers including online giant Amazon.
In an extensive interview with Hello Magazine, Lauren gave away some of her tanning secrets. Her top tips include:
“always exfoliates beforehand to get a smooth base and then moisturize daily to keep the tan fresh. Apply evenly and with a mitt or gloves to avoid tanned palms. Allow the product to dry for approximately five minutes after application before getting dressed. “
In an interview with the XFactor Joey Essex says of his fellow cast members:
“the ladies need to ease up on the fake tan and bleach a bit I prefer natural looking make-up, but the girls on the show are gorgeous though.“
This has not stopped the night club promoter being partial to the occasional spray tan himself. Joey has recently been filmed in a spray tan booth at his cousin, Chloe Simms salon using Fake Bake during the filming of a Walkers Crisp Advert.
Harry Derbridge like many of the Towie cast is a huge fan of Fake Bake. On his Twitter page Harry recently tweeted:
“Just got a gift through the door and it was loads of bottles of fake bake! My best fake tan in the world.”
Harry, in an interview with Fake Bake gushes his admiration for Fake Bake Airbrush.
Harry then continues to go into detail about his tanning routine in which he professes to use Fake Bake every second night to keep his tan always topped up.
The subtle tones of Laura Goodger (centre) have gone to reassure people that if they use a good quality fake tanner and use it sparingly there is no reason why they cannot achieve the same stunning results.

The Australian fake tanning company, tanGO has just launched the first self tan removal cloth to help stop streaking when applying fake tanner. In other words it is a solution to self tanning when it goes wrong.
The product is made of a polyamide material that removes the fake tanner without the need for harsh scrubbing or using unpleasant chemicals on your skin.
tango say the product will help eliminate an ugly tan build up between fake tan applications and will help prepare the skin for the next bronzing session allowing the fake tan to last longer.
A DHA fake tanning product can be applied straight after using the cloth as the cloth does not scratch or adversely affect the ph balance of the epidermis.
The procedure is so simple that you only have to add a little water to the cloth and start to wipe, controlling the amount of fake tanner you remove by the amount of wetness you apply.

Need I glow more comes in two different formulations, one for oily skin and one for dry and sensitive skin.

Recent images of an under 18 who received 70% burns from visiting an unstaffed tanning bed salon in Wales made the news.
It has resulted in the Welsh assembly passing legislation that will firstly see unstaffed tanning salons being banned. Secondly, all under 18s will not be able to access Tanning Salons from April 8th.
The dangers of sunbeds are well known
Further regulations will require the supervision of all adults using tanning beds from 31st October.
The Welsh Assembly has gone much further than the rest of the UK, where tightening of laws have already seen Tanning Salons having to provide protective eye wear for their customers as well as provide health information about the use of sunbeds.
Wales has been hit particularly hard by recent cases of children getting badly burned by sunbeds. As a result, Cancer Research UK carried out a study and found that 8% of children in Wales between 11 and 17 had used a sunbed once with 40% having used them unsupervised.
The cases of skin cancer have risen considerably over the last few years, not just in Wales but in the UK as a whole.
The risks of UV rays are now well known and whether using tanning salons or natural sunbathing, the underlying dangers of sun burn in the short term and possible skin melanoma in the long term are well known.
Many people are now turning to fake tanning products as a safer alternative.
Famous Dave has launched a new product called Famous Dave’s Gradual 10. Famous Dave’s Gradual 10 is described as a natural everyday moisturiser with a hint of self tan.
The product has a host of natural ingredients and antioxidants including Cocoa Butter and Aloe Vera as well as organic ingredients such as sunflower oil which according to Famous Dave are supposed to help transform your skin in 10 different ways (hence Gradual 10)
For anyone who is interested, Famous Dave actually gives a breakdown of these ten different transformations.
They claim Gradual 10 moisturises, smoothens, nourishes, softens, protects, soothes, evens out skin tones, delays the effects of aging, improves skin elasticity and finally develops gradually into a flawless tan!
The product is suitable for both face and body. It is a light and quick drying lotion. Famous Dave says that the natural ingredients also minimise all the usual odours associated with most self tanning products (due to DHA).
The product comes in a 250 ml and as mentioned is now available on the market. For more news and product reviews about the best fake tan please navigate our site.
In a recent survey undertaken by Superdrug, the high street health and beauty chain, it has been reported that on average a woman will spend one month applying the best fake tan over the duration of her whole lifetime.
In addition to this, one in five women will spend a further 10 days under a sun bed on the same time basis.
It was not just women that were targeted in Superdrug’s survey. It was reported that almost half of all men questioned by Superdrug confessed to applying fake tanning products for men before a night out. It must be presumed that Superdrug’s survey was conducted in store!
18 – 24 year olds use the most fake tan products
In a separate Australian survey (not conducted by Superdrug) it was found that on average fake tan products are used by almost nine percent of all South Australian Women over the age of 18 years old.
The age group most likely to use fake tan products were those aged between 18 and 24 years old, with 28 percent of those surveyed saying that they used some sort of fake tanner.
Further interesting statistics say that the higher the annual household income, the more likely the woman is to use fake tanning and people with fair skin are far more likely to use fake tanner than those whose skin tans quickly in the sun.
With spring around the corner, the newest self tanner has hit the UK’s bulging fake tan market. Australian company, Vani-T is launching its liquid sun spray hoping to win favour with UK self tanning addicts.
The product is believed to have already found favour with a number of celebrities including Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Anniston.
Liquid Sun adheres to an organic formula which is increasingly in vogue at the moment with competitors like Green People.
Vani-T is favoured by celebrities
The company claims that by using only organic ingredients as well as organic DHA it avoids the nasty chemical odour given off by most fake tanners. Vani-T also claims that after application it only takes an hour for a nice subtle shade to develop.
Vani-T Liquid Sun is available as both a salon and a home based spray which they claim is so smooth and efficient that after a spray gun session, it’s straight on with the clothes and a night out on the town.
The product has already been tried out and early reports are good. There is barely any odour, the initial guide colour upon application is bronze and it does not leave any stains on clothing.
Paris Hilton, the celebrity heiress who made a name for herself partying in New York City’s top bars and nightclubs turned the big three zero last week.
In an article recently featured in Culture Map, she talked about the implications for her of turning thirty where she discussed wide ranging issues from babies to self tanning.
Turning thirty often forces both men and women alike to confront the early signs of ageing and natural tanning under the sun, soaking up harmful UV rays is not helpful in countering ageing.
Indeed, the good news for self tanners is that Paris intends to expand her product line to include sunless tanning products.
Paris Hilton will add self tanning lotion to her product line
Paris will also shun the sun and expand her product range to include self tanning lotion.
Her range already encompasses fake nails, fake hair and fake lashes and it is surely a natural progression to embrace fake bake!
Sun Laboratories have announced they are going to offer their sunless tanner products free to anyone who hasn’t tried them before. The idea is that the free samples are meant as a test to find out whether the product suits a certain skin type.
It has always been a common complaint of self tan users that sometimes buying a self tanner that doesn’t suit their skin type can be a waste of money.
Other concerns of self tan users before buying a product also include whether there are side effects and whether the product can really give the same effect as a natural tan.
Free Tan Samples Are Helpful To Test A Product Before Buying
Sun laboratories are addressing this problem by giving out free samples and therefore asking potential customers to buy only once they are happy with the results.
The sunless tanning samples are completely free, they just charge a nominal processing fee of 1p.
For example, the Ultra Dark Self-Tanning Lotion normally retails at around £20 Other free samples on offer include, Sun Screen Tanning Lotion, Sunscreen Glitter Gel, and the Gift Set Peach Nectar Hand & Body.
Sun Laboratories has been prominent in providing the best fake tanning solutions for a long time now and has a global reputation and customer base. The company also makes body and bath products.
