The organic fake tan is a relatively new niche within the fake tan or sunless tan market.
New and ethical companies such as Green People and Tan Organic are offering self tanning products that are organic and meet the criteria of self tanners who are concerned about sustainability and the environment.
All self
tanning products are based around a main tanning ingredient called dihydroxyacetone which is also known as DHA. DHA is a natural ingredient derived from the breakdown of simplesugars.
Organic fake tan products offered by ethical companies are choosing to mix DHA with natural products rather than chemicals offered by the traditional tanning providers.
Help save the environment with an organic fake tan
For example, the organic providers chose to mix DHA with plant derived emulsifiers as well as organic plant oils such as sunflower and olive.
In effect 88% of the ingredients in self tanning products are coming from certified organic sources. All the organic fake tan products are totally free from the chemical non organic ingredients of traditional providers including sodium lauryl, laureth sulphate and parabens which are often used in mainstream cosmetics.
A good example is the product offering from Irish brand, Tan Organic, which is the the first anti-ageing organic self tan. It is Formulated with Aloe Vera and organic DHA. Other organic ingredients include Vitamin B-B and Hyuloronic Acid.
As you would expect from an organic brand, Tan Organic contains no preservatives, synthetic colours, or fragrances and is also free of paraben.
